overall personality , Monty, like any young sport horse, is rather high strung, but nothing a good horseman can't handle. He can be somewhat headstrong if he hasn't been ridden in a day or two, but usually minds his rider well. He doesn't do well with numerous rider changes, as he hates to be picked at, and has a lot of little quirks that take some time to figure out. He does require a confident rider who won't let him get away with things, since he is one of those horses who likes to test his rider and if they don't stop him from doing naughty things he sure will do them. Though not very often, and usually just when he's overly excited or in a mood, he can buck on occasion, but not really much of a serious buck. Because he is a barrel horse, he doesn't do well with wide sweeping turns and tends to run through any inside leg that is applied in an attempt to keep him from turning sharply.

history , Monty was born with a lot of expectations, being a direct descendant of On the Money Red, "the most prolific sire of money winning barrel horses of all time." He spent his first year at the breeding barn, and was purchased by the Montgomery Cattle Co. as a gift to Sydney when he was a yearling. Life was relatively uneventful for him before his training really started in earnest as a three year old when he turned out to be a rather troublesome colt. He never did anything particularly horrible, he just took longer than most to finally settle in and accept life as a broke horse. When he reached the age of five, he finally started to level out and became much more manageable. Shortly after that he and Sydney moved out and started their migration from state to state, competing in local rodeos and other smaller shows until they came to Chicago where they settled, at least temporarily.
