Shutting off her Jeep Wrangler, Meadow sat in the parking lot of Caramel Rivers. She’d only spoken to the owner over the phone, and this was her first time actually coming to the stables. She’d read reviews on their facilities, and their employees. She’s gotten a great deal of information on Mr. Richard Calvin, but it hadn’t all been involving horses. Google had so many resources, there was a Richard Calvin who was a doctor, a sculptor… But she was more interested in the stable owner.
She’d gotten a call about 20 minutes ago that her horse was 15 minutes away… The traffic getting here was just fine, there was no way they should be taking this long. Her mind started to wreel. What if they’d gotten in an accident? What if something had happened and Blue? She would never forgive herself. She should have just left the gelding at the other boarding stable instead of going through all of this stress. It was only a few hours farther away… She was lying to herself, and it was too late to do anything about it now. Sending him back would just be even more stress on the both of them. What she’d reach about the place showed that it would be great for Blue. He’d have other horses to be friends with, he’d be closer to her, and maybe she could even let kids ride him. He’d get a lot more exercise that way.
As a batter old pick-up truck made it up the drive, Meadow got excited. She’d gone with a cheaper, older company because of money issues. It was the wrong truck though, and she pouted in disappointment.
Tired of waiting in the creeping heat of her Jeep, Meadow opened the front door, and place both of her feet on the ground as she slid out. She could smell manure, trees, and horses. Lots of horses. She could hear them a lot better now too. She’d heard a few quiet whinnies, but now they were much louder. The driver would call her when he got there with Blue, Meadow might as well explore her horses new home.
Instead of stopping in the office and asking for a guided tour, she walked straight towards the sound of horses. She figured that would be the barn, and she was right. Excitedly, she picked up her pace. Maybe she could find Blue’s stall herself. She wouldn’t be riding him today, though there was plenty of time. She just figured he’d be tired from his trip, and she decided to just wear flats and simple day clothes. She wasn’t one for dressing up, or really trying all that hard to match, so she looked a little ‘frumpy’ as her adopted mother would say. That woman could pull almost anything together, and that was probably where Meadow got her sense of style. It was often called stylish grunge mixed with a vintage feel by people. Meadow called it not caring. And that worked for her. She heard other teacher at the school saying she was unprofessional because of the way she dressed, but she felt the kids liked her better for it.
Walking down the isle of horses, Meadow offered her hand to a few eager, velvety noses until she found Blue’s stall. It was right next to a really friendly mare, and this excited her. “He’ll have a friend.” She said under her breath. Of course, Anna, his goat was coming too. She may have forgotten to mention her to Mr. Calvin. Oops… She bit her lip, hoping that wouldn’t be an issue.
