The smell of horses and hay assaulted Rose as she walked in the open doors of the stable. Nothing she wasn't used to, but for some unknown reason her stomach knotted and her head started to spin. She had recently just signed on as the Show Jumping Instructor here at Caramel Rivers, leaving her beloved barn behind. It wasn't like she just abandoned it, she hired a new trainer and she would monitor a lot of the proceedings here on her off time, but that didn't seem to ease her worries. Her grandmother would be fine, and she would be able to take care of the place while Rose broadened her horizons.
Ivy's head bobbed next to her arm as she clopped along towards her new stall. She was the only thing that Rosalie couldn't afford to leave behind. As if sensing the turmoil that raged inside of her, Ivy gave a little nicker, and butted her nose into Rose's back. “I know girl, this is something big for the both of us. But it'll all work out, I promise.” She slid her hand under the florescent green cheek strap of the halter to give the mare a gentle pat of reassurance. Her matching lead rope was slack in Rosalie's hand, bad horse etiquette, but Rose didn't really care. There was a strong bit of trust between the two, and she knew Ivy wouldn't run, but in any case, she pulled her hand up closer to the clip and kept the horse closer, more for her comfort then for anything.
She lead the gray mare into a large stall, already bedded with fresh, yellow straw. Ivy's head bobbed as she scented the air, walking around the roomy stall, clearly larger then the ones she was used too. Delicately she dipped her head in the already full water bucket, then came back to wipe her wet nose on Rose's arm. With a laugh, Rosalie gave the old mare a pat and unclipped the lead rope from her halter, raveling and placing it on the hook outside the door. “You could use a good brushing huh girl? Lets see what I can get ya.” She grabbed her nylon headdress and clipped the cross ties on either side before she stepped out of the stall. Leaving the large door open, she looked down either end of the barn for the tack room. Locating it she made a B-line towards it, looking in a few stalls at the large, majestic horses that boarded there. She was home and she knew it.
Walking into the large tack room, she found the little hook with the name Poison Ivy above it. She had been in here yesterday, storing all of Ivy's tack and grooming kit. Rose ran a hand over an English saddle, admiring the shine and value. “Gosh, this is it Rose. I guess you should have known what the price would be coming here. This is a high class place, but you're worth it. You can do it. So stop psyching yourself out and get to work. Ivy's probably waiting for you very impatiently.”
[/i] Now with an eased mind, Rose grabbed the grooming kit from the little cubby and headed back out the door. Without stopping to look at all the equines, Rose hurried back to a stomping Ivy. “I know, I know, I'm sorry. I had to explore.” She whispered to the horse as she ran her hand down the strong neck, and then down each leg checking for any warmth or injury that might have happened during the ride here. Satisfied, she grabbed the rubber curry brush, and started running it around the top of Ivy's neck. The circular motion was soothing to Rose and made her smile when Ivy leaned into it, her large heavy eyelids batting over her green eyes. Rosalie just stood there, taking her time to get every inch of the horse as she took in her surroundings. This was gonna be something she'd have to get used to but there was nothing that would hold her back.[/blockquote][/blockquote] && tagged ---[/b] Open && words ---[/b] 720 && outfit ---[/b] n/a [jeans & blue t-shirt] && lyrics ---[/b] “airplanes” by b.o.b. && notes ---[/b] First post, kinda just getting used to the barn. && credit ---[/b] 20shadesOFblack of CAUTION 2.0![/sup][/font]

Post by Emma Sullivan on Jul 30, 2010 23:42:19 GMT -6
Thursdays were good days for Emmelina Sullivan. She had no classes at all that day, and used the free time to the fullest. She was up at ten to eat breakfast and read any material that had been assigned, or maybe start drafting that paper due next week. She'd watch some TV, make a quick lunch, and hit the books again for a few hours before grabbing some coffee with friends or heading out the the barn. After her excursion for the day was complete, the girl would return home and either waste time via the Internet or television, or continue her studies until she went to bed. While this sounds like a rather full schedule for a day off of class, Emma did not like to let all of her free time go to waste. She put it to use in the most efficient possible way, while still allowing herself to relax and unwind.
The barn is just one of the places she likes to do this; the air was fresh, the people were friendly, and the horses were...horses. Riding did require tough work at times, of course, but just being near horses seemed to make tedious barn chores easier – or at least worth the toil. Mucking stalls and lugging hay bales about with the comforting smell and sounds of the barn as a backdrop was more play than work, and infinitely more fun than being buried under piles of notes and books and deadlines. Emma breathes easy and smiles as she parks her car and begins the trek to the barn. In a few hours she will be a filthy, sweating, and very tired mess; the funny part is that she's looking forward to this. The girl planned on riding Cassie (a barn horse she paid to ride twice a week) for about an hour, cleaning the chestnut up until she shone spotlessly, and going home to a long, hot bath. Perfect.
Emma strode quickly into the barn and down the aisle to Cassie's stall. She waved and gave a few friendly “hello”s along the way but didn't veer from her path to right outside the chestnut's stall. The mare eagerly poked her head out over the half door at the sound of her rider's approach, and the brunette smiled while giving her a good scratch between the ears. “Hey Cassie,” she murmured, removing the horse's halter from its peg on the wall and opening the stall door. She made quick work of slipping the halter over Cassie's nose and leading the mare out of her stall and to the row of large, neat cross ties a little ways away.
As soon as the brunette had secured her mount in the cross ties she made a quick detour to the tack room to grab Cassie's brushes. One good thing about not having a horse of her own was that Emmelina didn't have to worry about purchasing tack, brushes, or other supplies. However, this would soon be changing, and the girl was excited. When she began her college education, she gave up on owning a horse until much, much later in her life. She had at least six years of schooling ahead of her, not including a PhD, and wouldn't be making enough money to actually purchase a horse of her own for a good while. When she finished her undergraduate studies, Emma's parents had surprised her with a rather extravagant graduation gift: they would buy Emma her first horse. Its care and keeping would be Emma's responsibility, but as her graduate school tuition was taken care of by many scholarships and her parents, this was more than possible. The young woman was just inches away from a horse of her own...all that was left to do was find the right one. She knew it would come together in time, but her impatience was growing with each passing week.
Easily finding the mare's brush caddy and returning to the cross-ties, Emmelina gave a small, happy sigh. Setting down the box of brushes near her feet, she crouched down to retrieve a curry comb. As she did so she caught sight of a girl brushing a beautiful gray just two cross-ties away. Her eyes lit up slightly at the sight of the animal, as she'd always had a soft spot for grays. She hadn't ridden a single gray horse in her lifetime, which was probably why she thought they were so lovely. Now distracted from the task at hand, Emma stepped a little closer to the girl and her horse before speaking.
“Your horse is gorgeous! Would you mind if I pet her? I'm Emma, by the way. Are you new? I've only been here about a month myself but I haven't seen you around yet.”
[Hope you don't mind the crappiness, I just wanted to get something up for you since you've been waiting for ages and that sucks, haha.]
